Obesity in Children

Obesity in children is growing very rapidly around the world. I know as a parent saying no to our children is very hard to do. As a working parent I know you are very tired when you come home from work and you know your children our hungry,the house needs to be cleaned,homework needs to get done. You probally feel overwhelmed by everything that needs to get done in a short period of time.It would make things easier to just give your child a snack before supper so your child will leave you alone for a while. These snacks such as cakes,cookies,chips all start a pattern of your child's eating habits. Soon you find yourself finding it easier to maybe go to a fast food restaurant to get your child's meals or maybe go to the store and buy foods that you can cook in the microwave for not only your children but also yourself. Within a matter of time you will see weight coming on your child and obesity will soon start. Children often want food when they are bored not really hungry. They will say they are hungry because they like the taste of the foods not because they are that hungry.

I have seen many shows on obesity in children and can't believe what these children consume. I have seen 4 year olds eating a great big plate of all fried foods,then after that they eat all kinds of sweets. The majority of the parents didn't care that their child was now becoming obese at an early age. They felt like the would be depriving their child if they said no to him. I can tell you from experience that this kind of eating habits will start a lifetime of disappointments for your child. Your child will crave all those greasy unhealthy food and will be tormented by others because of his weight he has gained. The obesity problem is only the beginning of your child's problems.

Some things that may be helpful to you as a parent is to start substituting one unhealthy food at a time. Let's say you are making a dinner and it consists of fried squash or fried okra. You can simply replace that fried food with a vegetable such as corn or carrots. When it is time for desert maybe give your child frozen yogurt instead of ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Please as a responsible parent or even an adult don't let your child control the eating patterns in your home because it's easier on you. Obesity needs to be taken more seriously in the world. We have to remember children are children and they do not think of things that are good and bad for them. You as the adult need to guide your child in the right direction.
