Detroit blues guitarist Maggie McCabe likes to provide musical amateurs and hobbyists with some fun.

That's why she hosts acoustic open mic nights every Sunday at Royal Oak's Four Green Fields Irish Pub, 30929 Woodward Avenue, starting at 8:30 p.m.

Her "song assignment" for participants on Oct. 31 is: "Songs with non-lyrics (lyrics that aren't words, i.e. "Obla de, Obla da).

Maggie is referring to a Beatles' tune, which proceeds as follows:

"Desmond has a borrow in the market place.
"Molly is the singer in the band.
"Desmond says to Molly, girl I like your face.
"And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand:

"Obla Di, obla da, life goes on, bra,
"la la how de life goes on.
"Obla Di, obla da, life goes on, bra,
"la la how de life goes on."

Four Green Fields patrons may wish to inform Maggie McCabe, in case she didn't realize, that according to Paul McCartney, these are not non-lyrics. Paul says a Nigerian congo player told him, "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" means "life goes on."

But don't give Maggie a hard time. There's no cover charge at Four Green Fields, and happy hour prices are advertised all night long.
