Observations from a Distance

Deb
Person
Wispy strands of flaxen hair fall gently across her wrinkled brow. A delicate nose adorns the porcelain, doll-like complexion. Soft pink lips purse themselves together tightly. Long, blonde lashes frame large, inquisitive eyes the color of a crystal clear blue sky. Perfectly arched eyebrows finish the aristocratic look of this diligent student. I wish I was smart like her.

Place
A sharp, tangy scent fills the room while hints of a sweet, buttery mixture still clings to the air. Bulky tubs and various clothing articles are strewn haplessly throughout the room. Well-made beds are adorned with overstuffed elephants and teddy bears. Slightly bent pictures of a former, innocent life gather against the purple striped background of a bulletin board. A much too cluttered desk wobbles under the weight of papers and books. The soft, inviting glow of a lamp casts its warm rays on the inhabitants of dorm life. I wish I was at home with my family.

Thing
Two black beady eyes peer out from behind some brown, fuzzy, and well-worn fur. A black nose sits atop a lopsided grin. Two funny, little ears poke up through the busy fur. Two pleasantly plump arms reach out in a seemingly inviting manner. Two plush legs stretch out from underneath the soft tummy of a teddy bear. I wish I was a little kid again.
