Minor Saturn transits happen about every seven or so years. But the Saturn Return transit may happen less than three times in a lifetime. Every twenty-eight years, Saturn returns to the place it was when you were born.
I had been checking the ephemeris often. Saturn kept going back and forth between Libra and Virgo, and I was preoccupied with the overall situation of these two Sun Signs, never thinking about the fact that Saturn is located in Virgo in my own chart.
Saturn astrology was there twenty-eight years ago. What a turmoil life was at the time.
In a lifetime, the crisis involved with a Saturn Return becomes more intense. At twenty-eight, adulthood is foisted on you, and it seems, all a sudden, huge responsibilities are plopping into your life out of nowhere.
Suddenly you aren't "getting away" with the tricks you were pulling during your earlier twenties. You might notice that the kids who got married right out of high school are getting divorced in mass. Or you may suddenly be getting traffic citations galore. Or it may be the time that you decide you've found that significant other. In any event, you are standing at the threshold of a new you.
Welcome to adulthood.
So, now, having passed through those fiery rings, I think I have life under control. I've had great energy, and accomplished a lot during these times since the first Saturn return.
Suddenly, I feel myself doing a one hundred eighty degree revolution. My husband retired, and the adjustment period lasted until recently. So that sounds good, doesn't it? No, because my own period of adjustment wasn't even in the picture.
Then, as things relaxed, I began thinking about my own life. It was as if some serious upheaval had happened. And it did, but all of it was all internal.
I became a hermit, secluding myself from everyone, including my husband. I felt something had changed or needed changed within, and radically, at that.
I began to stay home all of the time, only going out of the house when absolutely necessary. The only thing I wanted to do was writing. It was as if I was on experiential overload. The experiences had been coming in, and they needed an outlet, somewhere, and anywhere to go.
My friends didn't need to have their ears turned into tin, so, happily I did have the writing craft to turn to.
Serious issues needed attention. Issues of aging, and life brought in a keen perspective of how much time I actually have left on this planet.
If I am going to accomplish what I want to do, make my mark in the world, contribute some knowledge; I realized I had to discipline myself and become focused. This really goes against my free spirited grain, though.
Enter the element of discipline for this act. Yuck. But what are my choices?
Discipline is a keyword for a Saturn transit of any kind. You are not going to get anywhere in life, not even to the place that you make your own self happy, without using the tool of discipline.
It ain't fun, but you can't have everything. So, the need for a realistic assessment is here and now with a Saturn transit.
What are you doing? Where do you want to go? How do you get there from where you are now? What do you want to leave behind as your legacy?
These questions require a lot of alone time to evaluate. Conveniently, Saturn also has a way of obliterating your social life to accommodate a period of seclusion.
I'm thinking it's all part of a wonderful plan that ends up fitting the puzzle together. And, believe me, life does feel like it's been blown to smithereens during a Saturn return.
It's all good, though. The sad and lonely times serve to make the good times more noticeable. When you have disciplined and worked during a Saturn astrology transit, a reward is waiting for you at the end of the very special growth period that is Saturn.
