Obsessed: Beyonce Delivers a Shockingly Great Performance

Beyonce Knowles delivers an awesome performance in the recently recently Obsessed. The thriller, which opened in theaters everywhere on April 24th, also stars Idris Elba (most notably known from the HBO hit series "The Wire") and Ali Larter-not a newcomer to the big-screen, but most notably known from her role on the NBC series, Heroes.

In the movie, Beyonce plays the role of a loving, then outraged wife of a Finance Executive, who is the focus and victim of a stalker.

Beyonce, the R & B diva with a budding acting career, has been in a number of films, including The Fighting Temptations, alongside Cuba Gooding, Jr., and more recently, Cadillac Records, where Knowles depicted R & B legend Etta James.

Knowles has recently been quoted saying that while filming Cadillac Records, she, for the first time, was completely indulged in her role and felt the same "out of body experience" that she feels when singing onstage. She recently told Larry King on his show that she felt the same out of body experience when filming Obsessed, and for the first time, did improvisational theater. Improvisational theater or "improv" is the practice of acting in the moment and in response to the stimulus of one's immediate environment and inner feelings. Beyonce credited Idris Elba for helping her accomplish this technique.

It appears that as Beyonce makes more films, she becomes more comfortable on screen.

Knowles has been criticized by some for her acting performances, and was shunned by the Academy with her performance in Dreamgirls, instead awarding Jennifer Hudson as Best Supporting Actress. The former Destiny's Child member was also overlooked by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, who promotes the Golden Globe Awards, for her role in Cadillac Records. While Beyonce was nominated in the Best Song category in 2009, she was not nominated for Best Actress.

Obsessed could open more doors for Bey. She delivers an outstanding performance-not overacting in any way. She and Ali Larter have an intense fighting scene at the end of the movie. Beyonce shows audiences that not only can she effectively deliver her lines, but she can convincingly convey a choreographed (or was this improv?) fight scene that leaves audiences applauding the performance.

Beyonce has definitely come a long way in her acting career. There have only been a few roles in which she hasn't played a singer (or when she didn't sing half of the movie's sound track). Her role in Obsessed is one of these-and we're happy to see it. Here's hoping that she continues to grow and explore new scripts.

I am in total agreement sensate, it was a shockingly offensive portrayal of a gay caricature.

What is shocking about the movie Obsessed is it's hateful and homophobic treatment of it's sole gay character. Apparently Beyonce thinks it's ok to refer to gay men as "girls" or "silly old queens" and that all gay men are cosmo swilling gossips.
