Most people believe that showering on a regular basis keeps their skin essentially clean. What most people DON'T know is that tap water only removes around 65% of the dirt and oil that accumulates on your skin throughout the day!

Using skin cleansers can easily raise that percentage by acting as agents to remove bacteria, cosmetics, excess natural skin oils, dirt, and exfoliated surface skin cells. Our skin is the largest organ in our body and the one that gets the most exposure to the environment we live in. By following these next simple tips, you can be sure to be on your way to healthy, beautiful skin.

During the day, your skin becomes clogged with dirt, sir pollution, sweat, and bacteria. Cleansing with regular soap may cause your skin to become dry and flaky because they can reduce the oils in your skin excessively. This can also increase the bacteria on your skin, leading to cellular damage. Not everyone's skin is the same. Make sure to choose a cleanser that is appropriate for your skin type. The five skin types are Normal, Sensitive, Oily, Dry, and Combination. Each person may require a different kind of cleanser according to the skin type they have. The most important thing to remember is to rinse well. After washing your skin, make sure to thoroughly rinse off any soap or cleanser used. If any is left on the skin, it may cause dryness and irritation, as it continues to cleanse. The best cleansers are non-irritating, safe for your type of skin, and won't clog pores or cause acne.

Normal Skin: Experiment with various liquid and soap gels. Regular soap usually works well for hand-washing. Even if you have normal skin, mild cleansers should be used on sensitive parts, including genital areas.

Sensitive Skin: Avoid using any gels or soaps that may contain alcohol, preservatives, or strong acids. Use gentle, water-soluble lotions and warm water when cleaning your skin, and stay away from scrubs or astringents, as they can cause inflammation.

Oily Skin: You should use a gentle, foaming facial wash to remove dirt and oil without stripping you completely of the fats needed to maintain your skin's moisture. You should avoid any wax-based cleansers, which can clog up your pores.

Dry Skin: Use a non-detergent cleansing cream that rinses off easily. Hard-milled cleaning bars and gentle face cleansers are great for drier skin, and using a liquid cleanser with a cleansing sheet will cleanse your skin without stripping away essential oils on your skin. Use cool to warm water to rinse. Using hot water can cause your skin to lose moisture.

Combination Skin: In the mornings, use a foaming facial wash to keep oily areas clean. Use a cream cleanser to soothe dry areas in the evening. 2-3 times a week, use a clay-based masque to reduce oil on nose, chin, and forehead. A cream or gel masque will add moisture to any dry areas of the face.

Maintaining healthy, clean skin is essential. Your skin protects the rest of your body from outside pollutants. Shouldn't you do the same for it?
