Occupy Wall Street

The Great American Party Arises

Rose Richmond

Since President Obama took office, it has been a constant flow of negativity coming from Republicans and Tea Partiers. Over and over and over, they have told America..."We can't leave this debt to our children". They have preached and preached about the evils of Obama and what he was doing to our young people. It has become their mantra.

Because of the continued, bad economic state of our country, the lack of jobs for these valuable young people and the prospect of their futures, looking bleak, they have stood up.They have stood up and said, Enough! Not with the debt crisis that Republicans have taunted over and over, to be the reason they should be angry, but with their lives being torn apart.Their families lives being torn apart. No jobs, foreclosures and more. It is because of lack of cooperation and concern in Washington.

They have watched over the last 10 years as America has become increasingly irresponsible and increasingly out of touch with the real world. They have watched as Wall Street and Corporations have gotten fatter and fatter. They have watched our Government turn into a Chess game vs a source of Leadership and trust.

It would seem the Government is more concerned with arguing and winning, than being concerned with the state of our country. That is the reason Occupy Wall Street has come about. That is why it is spreading across the country. The very same people our Government was scared of leaving debt to, are camping out, protesting and burning up the social media with their quest. The Conservatives are saying, "This isn't like the Tea Party Movement, these are Thugs, Kooks and Terrorists. Bill O'Reilly was fast to call them "Kooks" on his show recently. Eric Cantor called them "Mobs"!

Is it because the so called "mobs" don't agree with the Conservative rhetoric in Washington and across the country? Is it because they are supporting tax increases and President Obama's attempts at creating jobs? It is all of that? Yes! The Tea Party supported everything conservative but in the extreme. That is why they were welcomed with little reluctance. This new wave of protester is young, demanding, liberal somewhat and willing to do whatever it takes to be heard.

What will it take for Washington to hear them? They have now spread to many other major cities. The crowd at Wall Street in flowing into parks and surrounding areas. Is anybody listening yet? According toMSNBC,(http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44834449/ns/us_news-life/) On, Friday, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the protests "aren't productive" and bad for tourism, even as he said he was sympathetic to some of their complaints. This is what the people running things are concerned about! Tourism.....are you kidding?

Again according to MSNBC one participant said this, "We're tired of other people controlling - or thinking they control - our lives and our livelihoods," said Kristin Thompson, a 22-year-old pre-school teacher and one of 100 protesters on Saturday in downtown Mobile, Alabama.

Why does it appear when "conservative" protesters speak, they are revered for their bravery, their determination and their patriotism? However, when "liberals" stand up for their rights and beliefs, they are put down, disregarded and touted as being horrible, lazy bums and tree huggers? In my humble opinion, the Tea Partiers were not the patriotic bunch. These people are. Our country was founded because the average person was tired of oppression and dictator behavior from their government. They were tired of seeing the rich and the powerful look down their nose and throw their leftovers out the back door to them. They were fed up with liars, cheaters and unconcerned officials telling them what they could or could not do.

The Occupy Wall Street movement seems to be more closely related to the patriots we respect in our history, instead of a group that just wanted to take over our Government and hold us hostage, like the Tea Party has done. They haven't helped America! They have put us in gridlock in Washington and have made a pledge to support the rich and not cooperate with President Obama. Mitch McConnell, though Republican is following Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan like a puppy. His speech earlier in the year pledged to hold our Government hostage, until President Obama loses in 2012. That was their agenda. And of course, he doesn't want higher taxes...he is in the bracket that would pay more. He can't even admit where he got his fortune. He gets extremely angry when questioned about it. He is yet another Conservative that signed the "No Tax" pledge with Grover Norquist, the Washington lobbyist. http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/what-the-attack-on-grover-norquist-didnt-address/2011/10/05/gIQAfmQHRL_story.html. That wasn't the purpose of the original "Tea Party".

Does anybody really know the "TRUE" story of the Tea Party? It wasn't what Eric Cantor and the rest say they are fighting for! Maybe some history lessons of the truth would be helpful to many. Check out a first hand account of the REAL TEA PARTY from someone who was there. http://torchwood-us.com/2011/04/02/the-original-tea-party-movement-was-a-revolt-against-a-corporation/.

The Occupy Wall Street crowd is a movement that hopefully will stand their ground through everything that is thrown at them. Democrats are coming out in support of them but how long will they support it if it gets nasty? We were concerned about our kids, but they are standing for what they think is right. That is their American right. Democracy isn't limited JUST to the people who are reasonable or agreeable. Our country was built with the blood of patriots and people who did not agree with what the Government was trying to cram down their throats.

The so called "Tea Party" of today wasn't created because of President Obama. It was created because of eight years of George Bush. It was an easy transition to make it all about Obama though. It was also an easy transition to rope Americans into being a part of the "Tea Party" through their ignorance of history. How many Americans know their REAL history...not many! As an old saying goes, People who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it! That is what is happening in Washington with the Tea Party and the Republicans.

They are setting up the Government to fund the rich and keep the middle class and poor, broke and struggling. That way, the poor bastards can't focus on them and their crooked ways. Isn't that what the British did to America in the beginning? Isn't that the reason for the American Revolution? Americans were tired of being under the control of the rich and powerful in Government? They were tired of the rich continuing to get richer and the poor getting poorer. That is what the REAL TEA PARTY was all about. The Boston Tea Party was the beginning of the end for the powerful rich that were running the country. The Tea Party of today was funded by the rich to fool the stupid and ignorant regular people in America. It was a farce.

As we watch what happens with Occupy Wall Street, we can only hope that they can endure. We can only hope that they will gain more and more support. We can only hope that Americans across our land will stand up with them and say "Enough!" This is the Great American Party movement. This is average citizens who want to see "True Change" ! They want to see fairness and concern and cooperation in Washington and in every city in America. They are not "Kooks" or "Mobs" or "Terrorists"! They are just Americans who are fed up! Rightfully so! Our Government has taken advantage long enough. This should be the New American Revolution! This should be the New Tea Party! Not the clowns that claimed the term based on lies.

God Bless All of you on Wall Street and across America! Continue to stand for your beliefs! America is your country as much as anyone else!

Love your passion and compassion, Rose. "Is it because the so called "mobs" don't agree with the Conservative rhetoric in Washington and across the country?" Precisely yes indeed. --- I'm curious to see how the movement will go. Here they're occupying the Civic Concourse where San Diego City Hall (and the opera house) is I guess because it is the only open pedestrian space within a block of the banking district. Very peaceful... and I hope it stays that way (heard the news last night about how it got unpeaceful up north of us and an Iraq War vet got hurt quite badly). I'm employed by a few upperclassers, tho, so I'm not sure they're getting the message. As you say, the noses are still in the air. :o)
