On 18 October 2011, Douglas Schoen, former Clinton pollster and statistician, published a scathing report in the Wall Street Journal exposing the Occupy Wall Street movement's core ideals. This comes despite glowing praise from the rest of the main-stream media, including the L.A. Times and Associated Press, and their defense of the movement, citing it's "anti-greed" goals as a venerable struggle. Even President Obama gave credence to Occupy Wall Street by mentioning it in his speech at the dedication of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial.
The coverage showered upon Occupy Wall Street leaves the reader, listener or viewer with the impression that it is a spontaneous gathering of unemployed workers, wronged by the greater financial establishment, with valid complaints against the major financial institutions and their executive leadership. Occupy Wall Street would lead you to believe that they are of the same mind as the laid-off Midwestern auto-worker. Additionally, their "democratic" organization and protest style is designed to give the public the impression that they are a simple, peace-loving group that wants nothing more than to right the wrongs imposed upon them and the rest of the world. The truth, as supported by Mr. Schoen's research, couldn't be farther from this.
In a nutshell, Schoen's statistics are as follows:
1. Occupy Wall Street is not a spontaneous protest - 51% of the protestors have participated in a protest before.
2. Occupy Wall Street is not peace-loving - 31% support violence as a means to accomplish their goals.
3. Occupy Wall Street is not unemployed - fully 85% of the protestors currently have jobs.
4. Occupy Wall Street does not support President Obama - 51% disapprove his work so far.
5. Occupy Wall Street supports socialist tax structures - 65% say the government should guarantee healthcare, a college education and retirement no matter the cost.
6. Occupy Wall Street hates people who have more money than them - 77% support raising taxes on the "wealthy."
Mr. Shoen goes on to warn the Obama Administration and the Democratic National Committee that Occupy Wall Street is much more radicalized than Main Street America. By aligning with Occupy Wall Street, the 2012 elections could turn out to be more catastrophic than the 2010 mid-terms.
Draw your own conclusions about Occupy Wall Street, but the irony of the situation is this: A former liberal pollster, who would seemingly have a vested interest in promoting Occupy Wall Street, has published damning statistical evidence that Occupy Wall Street is nothing more than a socialist, redistribution of wealth scheme.
