Occupy Wall Streets Poor Execution

Jesse Schmitt
The Occupy Wall Street protests going on downtown have sure made a lot of noise of late. They are there, they claim to not be going anywhere, and they want their demands met. I went down there to check out what they are all about and the message seems to be lost in the passion of the movement. There are many problems with the Occupy Wall Street message but there are also some things in execution which are holding back the effectiveness of the Wall Street Occupation.

Living Like Princesses: I wrote about this a bunch of days ago. In this modern era its easy for Occupy Wall Street to get mad and rail out and make their demands and then go home and Tweet about it. If Occupy Wall Street were really committed to their demonstration they would be knocking on the doors and confronting people face to face.

Bite the Hand That Feeds: Occupy Wall Street are just as much of a commodity as the ones they're railing out against. They are fed, they are housed, and they are supported by someone somewhere. If Occupy Wall Street are going to keep gnawing at the hand which feeds them, they are going to wind up getting the smack down.

Zealous Demand Gets You Shut Out: The fact that these Occupy Wall Street folks were able to get this far is impressive. However when the Occupy Wall Street position is revealed to be an excessive and crazy position, the middle 80% of that 99% are going to shut you out. People don't like radical change no matter how much we may complain we do.

We Don't Live in Utopia: Occupy Wall Street are forgetting about the first rule of humanity; original sin. When Eve and Adam bit the apple and the eyes became cognizant of no clothes, the fall of man was complete. Whatever your feelings about religion or whatever; the facts are clear; we don't all live in a like minded Utopia. Even if all these things took effect there would be another side who would not want them to happen.

Everyone does not agree about everything all the time. Moreover the Occupy Wall Street list of demandsmay be one of the more fascinating things ever written. If all these changes took effect at once; the results would be hard to fathom. So in an effort to move on and try and make the world a better place; Occupy Wall Street should really work in small ways to make changes locally and make their own community better.

First, the 'demands' linked to are no more that a user-generated discussion board. I agree, they need focus. As for the argument that they are a commodity like what they are railing against, that's nonsensical. About them being fed and housed - should we wait until we are not to work for change? Millions of people not able to eat or find housing looking up at a disaffected and pretentious elite has resulted in real revolution in the past, not just people out demonstrating.
