When my friends and I checked into the hotel the attendant offered that we could change in the hotel changing room. This was the equivalent of a dressing room in a store with flimsy curtain in the front. There was no privacy there and I felt very uncomfortable. The attendant then proceeded to ask the guys in our group why they brought sand to the beach; indicating we-the girls-were the sand. This further solidified our idea that this was merely a hook up spot and wouldn't be a very good place to vacation. Luckily we only planned to stay one day and planned a longer trip next time if we enjoyed it.
We then went along the boardwalk and did enjoy some really good seafood and some cold beers. We enjoyed that some and we also found a boardwalk carnival with rides. We had some fun riding the rides but the carnival closed at 7pm. As the night started to fall; strangers started inviting our group to private houses for parties and things. They were not passing out club fliers; but they were distinctly inviting us to houses. This was a bit weird and uncomfortable and I started to worry about our safety a bit. We were surrounded by young suburban kids that seemed to be very into some of the negative qualities of the hip hop lifestyle fueled by alcohol.
We went into the hotel to get dressed to go out to the clubs at night. We tried watching tv but there were only about 10 regular channels on TV. There were equally as many channels of adult television. These were not pay per view channels; but were right there on the TV for anyone to see. We thought this was tacky. We went out to the night clubs which were packed from floor to ceiling. The music was decent. As we walked to and from the club we were still being invited to house parties. We got the uncomfortable feeling of people on the hunt and not people just having fun at the beach. After we went to the club we went to what we thought would be an easygoing bar that played classic rock and was kind of quiet. We sat there for awhile and became comfortable as the bar seemed to be like that. Then people started stumbling in that were drunk to dangerous levels. A few looked like they had alcohol poisoning. We left pretty early the next day and I don't intend to return. I thought Ocean City was a pretty disappointing place overall.

Post a CommentCouldn't agree more with GoRU. I've been to OC many times with my family and never have I come across that type of experience-- I apologize that your visit was miserable, but do look for the great family-oriented opportunities. You must have not been looking hard enough.
That is one funny review of OC. No mention of where you stayed, age/gender of your group, what club you went to, etc. Fairly useless review overall.
What is good about OC, MD is that it is what you make of it. It offers everyone something. Not sure about the heavy influence of "gangsta" types that you describe, but I've never felt uncomfortable in the many years I've been going.
