Ocean Prayer

Janis I. Monroe
I stand here wading in the roaring surf of a great ocean
The cool water wrapping around my ankles
As if the ocean were going to take me prisoner
Perhaps this is the vast ocean of my mind...
But how can one be certain?

I stray under a twinkling, starlit sky
Gazing at the moon's rippling reflection in the water
I cannot seem to escape the coldness here tonight
It's as though a mountain chain of icebergs where floating nearby
But it's always this way when you're not here

So come to me lover...
Find me...
Down on my bare knees
I ask the merciful Power up above:
Oh, God, please send warmth
In the form of loving arms
As I am exhausted from the cold
Send unconditional, everlasting love...
For I do not wish to be lonely anymore
Please, I ask of you
Send to me the one I dream of
