Ocoee Rafting: Tennessee's Oldest Rapids Rafting Company

Eloah James
Ocoee Rafting located in Ducktown, Tennessee, offers white water rafting trips on the Upper Ocoee River or a full Ocoee River run when open for rafting, and on the Middle Ocoee River from April through October. They are Tennessee's oldest white water rafting trip establishment and provide knowledgeable, friendly service. A full river trip takes about 3 hours. All equipment is included in the trip price and a fully-trained rafting guide is onboard each Ocoee Rafting boat, so even those people with no prior rapids experience can have an adventure on the one of the best white water rivers, with Class III and IV Rapids, in the United States.

Tennessee does require all rafters to be at least 12 years old and Ocoee Rafting requires that all riders wear some sort of appropriate footwear*. A list of suggested clothing is available on the website, as well as a list of dates that the upper river run is open, and full information on pricing. Trips can be booked online or by phone 800-251-4800, with a 25% deposit required at the time of purchase. Ocoee recommends that reservations be made 2 weeks in advance of your trip, to insure that there are spots available. You shouldn't arrive more than 15-20 minutes before your scheduled start time, as sometimes runs take longer than at other times and you may end up having to wait to start your trip.

Ocoee Rafting offers on site showers and changing rooms, as well as a small café that serves smoothies, sandwiches, coffees and various snack items. Picnic tables are located nearby for those who prefer to bring their own food and drinks.

Prices usually start at $30 for weekdays and Sundays, until Memorial Day. Costs then range from $40 - 48 through the end of September. During the month of October, week days and Sundays are $35 and Saturdays are $40. They offer group discounts and this year, they are offering Sunday trips during the month of April for only $28.

*From personal experience, author suggests shoes that fasten, lest one inadvertently fall off and be lost on the river
