October 2 is Name Your Car Day

Gayle Crabtree
October 2 is officially Name Your Car Day! I have known a lot of people who have named their cars but I didn't know that there was an "official" day set aside for it. We don't have a real name for my car yet. Now that we know it's Name Your Car Day I guess it's time to get that done.

Did you know that October 2 is Name Your Car Day? I didn't think so. Well, you have an opportunity to point your browser over to Yahoo Greetings. They have the perfect e-card for you to send to a friend and share the love. Here's the link.

Our cars take on a life of their own. They have each have their own unique personality. Name Your Car Day has been set aside to honor the uniqueness. Some names are just plain fun. My daughter briefly owned an older Ford Bronco. It died not long after she purchased it. While it was running my daughter named the car Helga. It was big, strong and stubborn.

We considered bestowing the nickname "the blue breeze" on my little PT Cruiser. In bright electric blue the car just fits in anywhere but most often breezes down the road. The name is close but not quite right. We've also talked about Betsy Blue but that doesn't quite fit either. We'll have to come up with something unique for Name Your Car Day.

Although my daughters refer to it as the "Bubba Mobile" Hubby doesn't have a name for his truck. Maybe he'll change that since he now knows it is Name Your Car Day. Or, he may change it now that he's just been told what our daughters call it?

Holiday Insights has a few suggestions for people who are going to name their cars. Here are a few ideas that were mentioned on their Name Your Car Day website.

Don't pick out wimpy names.
Old junkers are proud to be around. You can name them anything.

Have fun with it. Who wants to name their car plain old "Joe" or "Jane".

Name Your Car Day Tip #3

Pick out a name the other cars in the parking lot will respect.

Name Your Car Day Tip #4

Stick to names that are positive and upbeat. You know, use personable names. "Last leg", "Blocks", "Seconds" and "Also Ran" should be avoided at all costs.

Name Your Car Day Tip #5

No matter how proud you are of your car do not name it after the delivery guy. That's for doctors. Not cars.

I've never named a car, maybe we don't hang onto one long enough to get so attached! I think it's cute if a kid does it, an adult not so cute.
