October 20, 2010: Spirit Day

Please Wear Purple in Honor of Those that Have Passed Away

Emily Griffin
Tomorrow on October 20, 2010, there are going to be countless people wearing purple in memory of those that have lost their lives due to bullying. October 20th has been designated as spirit day, since on the gay pride flag, purple represents spirit.

Canadian teen, Brittany Mcmillan came up with the idea and it has spread like wildfire. Millions of people across Canada, The U.S. and beyond are going to be wearing purple tomorrow in honor of the 6 (and countless others) that have passed away due to bullying. As I stated before, Purple is the LGBTQ color of spirit.

McMillan says on her Tumblr site "Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who love and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality."

There has been a group created in honor of Tyler Clementi and there are over 54,751 people that say they are going to "attend." That doesn't include countless others that are going to be participating as well.

RIP
Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh, Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase, Asher Brown, Cody J. Barker, Harrison Chase Brown, Caleb Nolt, Billy Lucas, Jeanine Blanchette, Chantal Dube and the countless others that have not been mentioned.

Wear purple today needed so much more publicity. I would love to show my support, but just finding out about this on the day of is not good. Can we have another day??
