It's a perfect time to stock up on more candy corn than would be necessary for Halloween trick-or-treaters. October 30 is the time to just take it along as a snack or set it out in bowls on desks.
There is no certain history to when or why National Candy Corn Day was started. So, one other way to celebrate is to learn some of the history about Candy corn.
George Renninger was the first person to create candy corn. He created it in the 1880s. Candy corn was first manufactured by the Wunderle Candy Company. Around 1900, the Goelitz candy company was the first company to manufacture mass quantities of candy corn.
Corn syrup, honey, and sugar are the main ingredients of candy corn. Thus, there are certainly a lot of carbs. However, the candy is actually fat free!
Candy corn tends to have a white tip, an orange middle, and a yellow bottom. However, sometimes the candies have brown bottoms instead of yellow.
Since these colors are associated with fall, candy corn is eaten mainly during the fall. It is consumed the most at Halloween and Thanksgiving. It can be hard to find candy corn sold in grocery stores during other times of the year. Some stores will sell them in bags near the cheaper candy.
Since candy corn can be enjoyed all year long and there is no certain tradition of eating it during the fall, a good place to find it for a cheap price is at gas station convenient stores. It often hangs among other bags of candies and they usually cost about $1 for two bags of candy.
Here are some other ways to celebrate National Candy Corn Day.
Create a Candy Corn Picture
Candy corn look like autumn leaves and autumn grass. Use the candies to create a picture about autumn. It is best if this is just a fun activity done on a table. If there is a desire to keep the picture, take a photograph and publish it on the computer and perhaps online.
Make a Fake Candy Corn
Make a fake candy corn out of things like cardboard or plastic canvas. Make it really big so it is a fun symbol for the holiday.
Make a Candy Corn Hairbow
This one is mostly for girls. Glue candy corns to a barrette. Make sure to shellac the candies so they are air tight and bugs will not get to them. Wear the bow on October 30. It can also make a great accessory for Halloween and Thanksgiving.
