Dionysius, King of Portugal, 1279-1325 was born on October 9, 1261. Dionysius was known as "The Farmer King."

Alfred Dreyfus, French artillery captain, was born on October 9, 1859. He was tried and convicted on charges of treason in 1894, in a case known as The Dreyfus Affair. Dreyfus received a life sentence in solitary confinement in French Guiana. By 1906, based on new evidence, Dreyfus was released from his sentence and reinstated in the French military.

Everette (E.) Howard Hunt, American public official and convicted Watergate conspirator, was born on October 9, 1918. In 1972, E. Howard Hunt was convicted of burglary, conspiracy and wiretapping at the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the Watergate hotel complex near Washington, DC.
