October Lament

Lisa R. Strong
I am not ready;
For color-dotted hillsides;
For the pale sun of October;
For shorter days;
And longer nights;
Waking up in darkness;
Hearing the sound of silent mornings;
For leaves that will fall;
Pasted to the ground;
By the cold, evening rain;
And the smell of fire wood burning;
For the grayness of the skies;
The world becomes barren;
As we await the inevitable;
The first snow of winter;
For the beauty of autumn;
Is painfully fleeting

    Autumn smells and feels wonderful, but is way too short here in Florida.
