Odd News on the Internet

It's Crazy Out There

Oodles
It's so easy nowadays to get lost in the randomness on the internet. Finding strange news is only a click away. I sometimes like to read the odd news out there. It all started with the Yahoo! News Oddly Enough section. I got into the habit of reading their short, but bizarre headlines, then got into reading the actual stories.

So in my noggin is stored quite a bit of random nonsense about the human condition and the bizarre things that people often do. It's sometimes funny, but many times it's depressing stuff. There are sad stories about plastic surgery gone wrong. And about a year or two ago, there was a story about a poor man who was driving a truck full of stinky stuff and was killed by having a huge pile of manure fall on him.

In Germany there was a story once of a cash-laden truck crashing and spewing money all over the autobahn. A similar thing happened in the USA. Whenever that happens, oddly enough, not much money is returned. Hmmm.. I wonder why? Similar events have happened with ATMs and cash-dispensing machines.

Some of the stories are really disturbing. Like the people who pass away in their homes and aren't found until years afterward. Or the recent story about a tall and righteous African-American man who died, and was later disinterred because people who came to his funeral were suspicious that his coffin was too small. Turns out that the stingy, evil funeral home had chopped the dead man's legs so that he could fit into a smaller coffin. Talk about turning over in your grave...

Good odd news does happen sometimes too. There are always the people who find huge loads of money in weird places. And people receiving letters that were sent decades ago but got lost in the postal system or some cranny somehow. Recently there was a nice report about an old lady of 72 years who was robbed by a young teenage girl of 15 years, and then ran after the girl, using unusual speed, and caught her. Turns out she was a champion sprinter in her youth. That must have been fun to watch.

Today in Germany, something bizarre definitely happened. I don't know what it was, but there are always really weird things happening over there in Bavaria. It seems like the Germans have a knack for bizarre events. Same goes for Japan, except over there it always has a weird high-tech or creepy flavor to it. Everywhere in the world actually, there are bizarre things that are happening but just don't get reported.

Nowadays I have graduated to using reddit.com for finding the really strange and funny stuff. Another site is digg.com. I really hope that you do not become addicted to this stuff. So my humble advice is to take my word and know that you're probably better off not knowing most of it!
