Odds on Best Super Bowl XLV Props to Be Released Friday

Get a Jump on Best Prop Bets Before They Are Released Friday

Todd Jacobs
The Pittsburgh Steelers will face off against the Green Bay Packers in Arlington, Texas, on February 6th. Most fans look forward to the Super Bowl props every season a week before the game. The Super Bowl proposition bets take sportsbook staffs over four days to organized and run the math on the various props.

When all is said and done there will be over 300 Super Bowl prop bets. The expert in the specialized industry is Jay Korneguy of the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook. His props are some of the most unique props in the industry and his innovations regarding parlays on some of the props has been ground breaking. The following will be some of the best props to look forward to this Friday.

Player to Score First Touchdown?

This bet will revolve around a player scoring the first touchdown. If one of the quarterbacks is above 5-1 there are a good bet for this proposition. A wide receiver such as the Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings of the Green Bay Packers would be a good bet for this prop as well as a running back. James Starks or Rashard Mendenhall are good bets for the first touchdown prop.

Player to Score Las Touchdown?

Consider which team will lose the game and they will be a good bet to score the last touchdown. According to my breakdown of the Super Bowl I project the Green Bay Packers will lose. Look for a long shot bet in this spot and make a small wager. Try Jordy Nelson or Donald Driver for the last touchdown scored.

Pick the Final Score

This is a complete crap shoot but a fun bet to make and usually pays well. For instance points scored by one team may be 24 points will equal odds of 10-1 and 25 will be 60-1. Make a few small plays for fun and play the Super Bowl lottery on this prop bet.

Will There be Overtime?

This is always a good bet for fun in the Super Bowl. No one has ever cashed a bet on an overtime Super Bowl game. This may be the best chance for a Super Bowl to go to overtime but remember there has never been an overtime Super Bowl in the 45 year history of the game.

Last year the Las Vegas Hilton posted the odds for overtime as YES +850 and NO -1200. This represents overtime as a huge underdog bet that is a good bet this year. Expect this number to much lower for this game but worth a look.

Will the Game be Decided by Exactly Three Points?

This is another bet that may have lower odds this year when the props are released Friday night by the Las Vegas Hilton. Last year this prop was released as YES +450 and NO -600. Expect this line to be +300 or less this year since the actual line is -2.5 on the game.

First Score of Game Will be Touchdown or Other?

The first score of the game can easily be a field goal as both teams feel each other out in the early going of a game. Last year the odds on this game were Touchdown first -240 and any other score +200. This number should be very close to last years number. Always take the plus number on a prop bet.

Will There be a Safety?

A safety was awarded in the AFC Championship game so why not the Super Bowl. There have been safeties in past Super Bowls which makes this a good bet. A safety will pay +900 if it occurs and it is -1200 to bet there will be no safety.

Total Quarterback Sacks

Quarterback sacks is normally a solid number from year to year unless there is a team that is very aggressive with blitzing schemes and talented defenders. This season Troy Polamalu and Clay Mathews may combine for two or three sacks by themselves. The number last season was three and a half. Over three and a half sacks was +175 and under was -200 last season. Expect this number to be inflated to four or four and a half this season.

Bet the Coin Flip

The coin flip is always a fun bet to make and of course it is always a 50-50 bet. Pick a side and win the first bet before kickoff.

Will There be a 4th Down Conversion by Pittsburgh Steelers?

This is inevitable in a game of this magnitude and the Las Vegas Hilton gave a good price last year. The prop was set at YES +160 and NO -180. A team will be in a spot more than once when a fourth down conversion why not take a shot. Always take the plus money.
