Odds Are 'Dancing with the Stars' Winner Won't Be Nancy Grace
Of 12 Stars, Odds Favor Model Elisabetta Canalis to Win
Most people who do not keep up with Hollywood gossip and the seemingly never-ending mix-and-match of relationship pairs of actors may not recognize the name Elisabetta Canalis, but in Europe she is a star in her own right. Better known in the United States as the beautiful ex-girlfriend of actor George Clooney, Canalis is a much-sought-after Italian model and actress.
Just named to the Season 13 cast of ABC's hit show "Dancing With The Stars," she just might become a household name, especially if given enough time on the show. Professional oddsmakers like Bodog are saying she just might get that chance.
According to the online odds site, the leggy brunette is favored to win the mirror ball trophy by 3/1 odds. Canalis is not given much breathing room, though. Several of the dozen named to the new cast also have fairly good odds of winning the competition. Her nearest competitor, reality show host ("How To Look Good Naked") Carson Kressley, stands at 4/1 odds to win, with another reality show celebrity, Kristin Cavallari of "The Hills," just behind at 5/1.
Sports stars Hope Solo (U.S. Olympic and World Cup soccer goalie) and Ron Artest (Los Angeles Lakers basketball player) land in the middle of the pack at 8/1 and 10/1 odds, respectively. It should be pointed out that Season 12 winner Hines Ward, one of three athletes in the contest, was part of the middle grouping and placed fourth likeliest to win at the beginning of the competition at 11/2 odds.
The least likely to win? Apparently the oddsmakers see Chaz Bono, the famed transgender activist, as the least likely to take home the mirror ball trophy at season's end. His odds: 20/1. HLN talk show host Nancy Grace might also see a quick elimination. Her odds: 18/1.
* Carson Kressley - 4/1
* Kristin Cavallari - 5/1
* Chynna Phillips - 6/1
* Robert Kardashian - 15/2
* Hope Solo - 8/1
* David Arquette - 10/1
* Ron Artest - 10/1
* J.R. Martinez - 12/1
* Ricki Lake - 15/1
* Nancy Grace - 18/1
* Chaz Bono - 20/1
Of course, odds are subject to change and are situational, depending on problems, eliminations, injuries, and other factors. Canalis could be sent home on the very first "DWTS" results show. Last season's likeliest winner (according to oddsmakers at the beginning of Season 12), reality show star Kendra Wilkinson, was eliminated for a sixth place finish.
Those following odds as predictors should be cautioned that odds only reflect likelihood that any one particular celebrity will win the competition. Odds allow that all of the competitors could win -- just some are more likely to do so as opposed to others.
The odds for Canalis and the rest of the line-up might also change once the professional partners are announced as well. Pairing with partners who are considered strong could affect the ranking as far as who is most likely to win the competition. The dance pairings will be announced Aug. 31.
"Dancing With The Stars" Season 13 premieres on ABC Sept. 19.
