Ode to the Gray Squirrel

Ben Wood
Tried my best to follow the ABABCDECDE rhyme scheme, one that has traditionally been used for odes in the past:

To my tiny, fluffy, scurrying friend,
Who bounds from lines to roofs to trees
My warmest thoughts I hope to send,
To ward off nature's coming freeze
The sun's rays birth a silver sliver
As you dart among the foliage's tears
And gather your health for the coming frost
Not once have I ever seen you quiver,
A shaded sprite with absent fears,
Among bears and giants you are never lost

But oh, this morn, you perch filled with spite,
Barking incessant at friends and foes alike
Calling soothing words, oh try as I might,
Your perturbed mood I cannot seem to strike
Thief or vandal, death and pain,
Is that what you suspect of my intentions,
As I gaze upon you with childlike wonderment?
Let me assure you I'm not to blame,
I do not threaten your provision retention
And I will surely forgive your civility abandonment

Yet, my tiny, fluffy, scurrying friend,
I hope you can forgive my personification
My sweetest thoughts I hope to send,
As atonement for irrationalization
While others see a mere scrambling rodent,
A harbinger of the most vile inflictions,
A pest which must be hurriedly eliminated,
My eyes see a creature of loftiest sentiment,
Whose virtues are worthy of admirable fiction,
The sight of which makes my day illuminated
