Ode to My Lawn Mower

The Last Mow of the Season

Donna Cavanagh
The last mow of the season
I said that three weeks ago
But then a few warm days returned
And out came my mower for another show

This was the last time I started her up
The growing season has come to an end
A frost came; I hope the grass took notice
Good-bye for now my mower friend

For a few short months, I will not pull that string
And start your engine roaring
I know we will miss our hours in the sun
I hope your winter will not be too boring

Next spring, I will buy you new wheels
Maybe your self-propulsion will return
So I don't huff and puff up the hills of the yard
While the sticks and grass your blades do churn

Yes, we have shared some fine times
You have never backed down from our weekly chore
You go over stumps and rocks and branches
When I think you will give up, you just give me more

So, rest, my friend, in your comfortable shed
Take the winter to soothe your sore blade
And after the first mow of the new spring season
We will kick back with a beer and enjoy the cool shade

Very cute! I saw a guy mowing yesterday while I was in town. His yard didn't even need it. Guess he's not ready to park the mower yet!

Thanks for the reminder! I've definitely got to pull him out one more time before the winter, but it's been raining nuts and I've been nervous I might get pelted with all the acorns, so until they've all fallen, I'm not venturing into the yard!
glad I found you again,,,haven't been getting any email subscriptions for while now, hope this whole new change thing will get all the bugs out of the system soon!

Wish I had a yard to mow...though I don't regret not having the extra chores!
