Ode to Maggie

Maggie the Magpie

Mary Anne Simpson
Maggie full of joy
You found your cake today
A cake of nutty seeds and suet,
No need to scrimp and borrow
Good news and homage,
Joyful Maggie.

Rain and wind and snow,
Did not spoil Maggie's cake
Maggie's joyful chattering,
Wake up and rejoice
Warmth and light abound,
Greetings Joyful Maggie.

Maggie will not be deterred,
by idle gossip and two-forked tongues
She aids the traveler seeking light
Maggie flourishes not merely survives,
Joyful Maggie your cake awaits your return.
