O Mulberry tree connecting Earth and Sky
A hundred years old and eighty feet high
Limbs, branches and draping leaves
Next to my home, shading the eaves.
A hundred years old and eighty feet high
Limbs, branches and draping leaves
Next to my home, shading the eaves.
Cooling me from the blazing hot Sun
Giving food to the birds, a place for squirrels to run.
'Til the tornado came and uprooted your girth
After a century of living connected to Earth.
A river of tears for what has been lost
The roof can be fixed, your Life was the cost.
But I smile now at the beauty I've found
Your berries are lying upon the ground.
Gently I gather them in my hand
Give thanks to Creator for the wonder of Land
And dig a small hole, raise my eyes and pray
A new tree will stand in your place one day.
