oDesk Provides Remote Work During These Economic Times

With the current national unemployment rate at 9.4% (http://www.bls.gov/ - United States Department of Labor), one of the best places currently to look for work is via the many freelance sites available on the internet. One such freelance site takes a slightly different approach to the whole remote work scene. Instead of being the hiring entity, they bring the employers and the employees together (oDesk makes 10% of the project amount - this is paid by the buyer, not the provider).

oDesk (http://www.odesk.com) brings together the remote worker and the buyer in need. It is a fantastic resource for entire workteams.http://www.odesk.com/w/odesk_story shows how this works for both the buyer and the remote worker or team. Buyers and providers can be from any time zone and the work can be accomplished by the standards set by both.

From my own personal perspective, oDesk has been one of the most profitable ventures I've had. I've worked through them for over four years nearly exclusively. I have a unique perspective on the company as I also spent some time working on their support team in the "early days". While there are certainly many jobs to be found that have less than desirable rates or wages ($1 to $2 hour), you must keep in mind that a greater percentage of the work garners normal, if not above normal, rates. My current hourly rates is comparable to my state's average for the type of work I do on a regular basis. I'm often finding I need to turn away work as I don't have the time.

I highly recommend giving them a good look. In these economic times, every little bit helps!
