Odyssey a Twelve-Month Revolution: A CD Review of Pianist Jeremy Weinglass and Violinist Chris Woods

Piano player Jeremy Weinglass takes listeners on a 12-month musical journey on his 2010 album Odyssey: A Twelve-Month Revolution. With accompaniment by violinist Chris Woods, each track on the album represents each month of the calendar year. In 2001, Jeremy Weinglass began developing thoughts and ideas into the creation of the album. Weinglass musically arranged the first four months as "seasons", and was not inspired to finish writing the music for the remaining of the year until he got married in 2008. A personal dedication to his wife, Weinglass felt inspired to complete the remaining months on Odyssey: A Twelve-Month Revolution due to his marriage and new outlook on life.

The beginning of Odyssey: A Twelve-Month Revolution displays warm and soothing music, capturing the positive feelings associated with the start of a new year. The tracks "January" and "February" represent slow beginnings to the new year with musical arrangements accompanying the feelings of optimism and hope for the remainder of the year. Through the strong presence of music from Chris Wood's Violin and Jeremy Weinglass' piano, the track "March" features an emotional representation of madness during the month. Through the Spring and Summer months, Weinglass helps listeners release the warm feelings associated with the beautiful wonders of the world.

Towards the mid-year, Weinglass and Woods deliver dramatizing music as a way to emphasize chaos, uncertainty, and wonder. "August" begins as a soft melody from Weinglass' piano, building intensity at the peak of the song as Woods' violin brings emotional emphasis to the song. Inspired by tragic events of 9-11, Jeremy Weinglass' and Chris Woods' musical arrangements display the emotions through "September" as a somber reflection of uncertain times to be had. "December" is an inspiring soundtrack to the year's somber and joyous occasions, with celebration and reflections of the previous 11 months.

At the tender age of 12, Jeremy Weinglass began performing and composing musical arrangements on piano. Weinglass' talent, drive, and perseverance would drive him to many achievements and accolades including winning the LA Music Award for Instrumentalist of the Year in 2005. Weinglass is best known of his adaptations of popular Pop and Rock songs, including tracks by Norah Jones, Led Zeppelin, and Alicia Keys. While Weinglass perfected his piano skills, Violinist Chris Woods studied music at the Manhattan School of Music. Currently the concertmaster of the Southeast Symphony and Center Stage Opera, Chris Woods has become a musical phenomenon in the entertainment industry. Chris Woods has performed alongside many major musical acts including Justin Timberlake, Outkast, and Faith Evans.
