Of Course, I'm Going to Vote

I am always so happy to see voting day. It's not that I'm all that anxious to cast my very important ballot in support of better government and hope for the future, but rather, I'm so happy that all those political advertisements in the media will quit harping at me. Enough already!

Election day is kind of like taking your car in for an oil change. You go in there to get new oil hoping it will keep your car running the best it possibly can, but truthfully thinking that will primarily keep you between the ditches. I look at the choices of candidates and hope they can do the same for the country.

This time of year makes me wonder about the true health of our country with all this election campaigning. It really makes me wonder what a person can do for this country when all he or she can do is tell me what's wrong with the other guy. I think if they spent as much time figuring out what this country needs as they do digging up dirt on their opponent, there's no telling how much better life could be for all of us when they're put into office.

Now, I'm the first to admit that I'm not as politically savvy as many pundits, but I have to wonder if half of the terrible things I hear being said about each candidate is true. And if it is, he shouldn't be running for office, but rather he should be running from the law. And if it is true, then why in the world would be open himself up to allow someone to find out about it, much less have it blared all over the media. Truth be told, if we ever find a candidate who's led a perfect life, made perfect decisions and has the perfect family, I say we make him king of the country rather than president.

I will vote, though, because I believe in the system. Some of the candidates here in Mississippi I think will do a good job if they watch the company they keep. To be honest, some I will vote against because in the past, they've just gone with the flow to keep the peace. Some state offices I have no idea what they even do, such as the guy in charge of agriculture. Since I try to stay away from dirt as much as possible, I look to information from a couple of farmers to see what their thinking is on the subject.

There's one state office that I know gets my vote, though, and that is Mississippi's State Auditor. Anyone who could discover that a state office in the Capitol had completely misplaced a truck, a refrigerator and a handgun definitely deserves keeping.
