Of Rusty Nails, Whiskey Sours and Rob Roys - Why Scotch Whiskey is Ideal for Clubbers

Derek Jones
The good ol' scotch is probably not the hippest drink today. The youth of today do not associate usually go for scotch when they are at the bar, but it is a different story if the drink is mixed in some very drinkable cocktails. The idea of sugar sustaining you for hours on the dance floor is not new so why not this sweet Scottish nectar.

Many of our trendy clubbers would not give any thought to the sugar content of scotch and would constantly ignore this age old drink. And they do believe it a more fitting drink for their parents or even their grandfathers. The youth of today have greatly underestimated the sweet potential of a shot of scotch in the right cocktail combination and how enjoyable the party could become in a brief length of time.

There are some drinks on the market that could warm the soul and inspire the minds of some of the hopeful yuppies who are trying to stretch their pallets. The cocktail called RUSTY NAIL is a fabulous beverage containing 1 ½ oz of good old scotch and ½ oz of Drambuie. Add a little bit of stile with a twist of lemon and bottoms up.

The RUSTY NAIL blasts the common myth of not adding ice to your scotch, because for a perfect RUSTY NAIL you must fill the glass completely with ice. Then both liquids are poured simultaneously and stirred energetically not forgetting to add the twist of lemon. This light and delicate cocktail is completely drinkable without the harshness of the scotch being felt. It is also kinder to the stomach and throat than neat scotch.

The WHISKEY SOUR is another way to enjoy your scotch. This is a drink for all not classes Mix 2oz of blended whiskey and the squeezed juice of half a lemon, then you need ½ tsp of icing sugar, a cherry and a little slitter of lemon. Shake well the blended whiskey, the sugar, lemon juice and ice and pour into a sour glass. Don't forget to garnish with the cherry and slice of lemon for the complete experience.

The final surprise for our up and coming scotch drinker is a ROB ROY. This can be prepared quickly leaving you free to dance. It contains 1 1/2oz of scotch whiskey and 3/4oz of lovely sweet vermouth. Simply stir together with ice and place in a decorative cocktail glass.
