Off the Beaten Path - Restaurants Near the University of Oklahoma
Neighborhood: Central Norman Restaurants
Norman, OK 73069
United States of America
All of the following restaurants are located in Norman, Oklahoma, the town in which the University of Oklahoma (OU) is located.

Library Bar & Grill
Pub Fare (Sandwiches, Nachos, Gourmet Pizzas, Beer, and More)
607 W Boyd St, Norman, Oklahoma 73069
(405) 366-7465

Official Description: "A 'Cheers' type restaurant/bar that has 36 taps of beer, 36 bottles and 12+ wine selections. Sandwiches and pizzas are out of this world. The best patio dining around. Casual."

This gem of a hangout is hidden behind lush landscaping and trees just west of campus corner on Boyd Street. The outside patio seating is similar to The Mont's (see below), but on a smaller, more intimate scale. Bonus: If your parents call, you can honestly tell them you are at the "Library".

The Mont
Burgers, Mexican Specialties, and Homestyle Entrees
1300 Classen Boulevard, Norman, Oklahoma 73071
(405) 329-3330
http://www.themont.com/

Official Description: "A unique restaurant and destination for people from all over the world. Over the past several years, The Mont has won numerous awards including Best Restaurant in Norman, Best Appetizers for our great Queso and of course, Best Exotic Drinks for the delectable Original 'Sooner Swirl'."

Not exactly "off the beaten path" but well worth mentioning, the Mont is a beautiful historic building with professional landscaping. It is located just east of campus corner on the southeast corner of Boyd Street and Classen Boulevard. The awesome outside dining patio area has water misters to keep you cool in hot weather, and it has heaters to keep you warm in cool weather. When a train goes by on the train tracks right next to The Mont, your lively conversation will be interrupted. Alas, this is all part of the charm of The Mont.

If it's too cold to sit outside, sit inside and check out the historic "Town Tavern" OU football scoreboards dating back to 1947. They are updated after every OU football game.

The Border Crossing
Mexican Cuisine
606 W Main St, Norman, Oklahoma 73069
(405) 364-7617

Official Description: "We are a casual dining, Santa Fe Style Mexican Restaurant and Norman's oldest established Mexican restaurant beginning in 1977. Our menu includes seafood, smoked meats and Mexican food."

The Border Crossing is located in a nondescript row of businesses on Main Street in Norman. Enter and you will be treated to the most gourmet Mexican food in town. Great place to take your date.

Your article makes me homesick for Oklahoma. Especially the Sooner Swirl under the patio sprinklers...

Athena, I bet you're talking about Tarahumaras Mexican Cafe & Cantina at 702 N Porter Ave in Norman, Oklahoma. I haven't been there yet, but I've heard it's awesome!

    Hi Lori,
I have not be to the Library bar & grill yet. I'll try it in the near future. The Mont has a great atmosphere, but I wasn't impressed with their food at all.
Now if you like Mixican food, there is this place on Porter accross the Norman Regional, I can't remember the name, but they serve great Mexican food. They're alway bussy too.

I'm not a big Mexican food fan. It's probably because I hardly ever saw a Mexican restaurant until I moved to America.
