"Off the Map" to Premiere on ABC New Medical Drama from Shonda Rimes

Mandy Robinson
Starting on January 12, 2011, ABC will air a new show called "Off the Map." This show will be on Wednesdays at 9:00 pm CST. If you love "Grey's Anatomy" and "Private Practice," this is the perfect show for you to watch in the new year. Shonda Rhimes is famous for her work as a producer on these two shows and is going to have her hand in this one as well. Jenna Bans is the creator of this new hit show. This show has been picked up for 13 episodes so far in its first season.

"Off the Map" is actually filmed in Hawaii, but this show will be set in South America. This show is going to focus on six different doctors. They are trying to find their way and remember why they fell in love with medicine in the first place. They are going to be working in this tiny town together. They are going to meet new challenges every single day with the lack of medical equipment where they are working.

The cast of this show is Valerie Cruz, Martin Henderson, Jonathan Castellanos, Caroline Dhavernas, Mamie Gummer, Jason George, Rachelle Lefevre, and Zach Gilford. Valerie is known for the shows Nip/Tuck and True Blood. Rachelle is best known for playing Victoria in the "Twilight" movies.

The first episode of this show will let us see them arriving in the South American village. We will get a glimpse into the emotional baggage and reasons that they are all trying to get away from their normal everyday life.

This show looks like it will be a big hit with Shonda Rhimes backing it and producing. Tune in on January 12, 2011 for the premiere.

  • Shonda Rhime & ABC Hates Black Women1/20/2011

In this day & age of Michelle Obama and her beautiful daughters, who needs a Shonda Rhimes? Producer Shonda Rhimes, Jenna Banns & Betsy Beers at ABC either refuse to portray Black women on their shows in the TV lineup - consistently eliminating them from roles, as in “Off the Map” - or continue to stereotype Black women as (arguably) successful, but dysfunctional with sterile roles, as in Grey’s Anatomy and, to a degree, Private Practice. The typical pattern for her shows is
1.systematically and completely exclude Black women, or
2.In the rare cases where Black women are portrayed, cast them as less-desirable than their non-Black counterparts (i.e. out-of-shape, harsh, mean, emotionally barren – feel free to pick your stereotype as Shonda Rhimes and her crew uses them all), unable to be involved in healthy relationships with any man, and definitely not a Black man. At best, Ms. Rhimes and her crew may cast a Black woman as the “best friend” to a white or non-black cast

Yes, that’s right. The Shonda Rhimes in charge of creating “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Private Practice”, “Off the Map”, and a soon-to-be-produced movie based on the book “B*tch is the New Black”.
