United States of America
Rolla, Missouri, is a beautiful small city located in the rolling hills of mid-Missouri. It is home to Missouri S&T, a university of nearly 7,000 undergraduate and graduate science, technology and engineering students. As many students know, the university offers several on-campus living arrangements, including standard dorm rooms, 4-person suites, and a number of fraternity and sorority houses. On-campus housing is required for the first four semesters, but after that, many students find that they want to explore the living opportunities available off-campus.

Whether you're new to Rolla or just new to the off-campus housing scene, trying to find a place to live on your own can be overwhelming. Where do I start? What's available? What if I don't want to live by myself, but can't find a roommate? Below are several websites and information about off-campus housing options in Rolla to get your search started.

Rollanet
Rollanet is the self-described non-profit community information provider for Rolla. It has one of the best classified sections of any local publication, including a For Rent section that averages around 100 entries at any given time. If you're looking for an apartment or house, you can easily organize your search by Price, Location, or Entry Date. If you're looking for a roommate, you can post your own ad entry. Rollanet is often advertised in by individual leasers, smaller companies, and students looking for someone to take over their lease.

Investment Realty
Investment Realty is a large realty company that leases properties in Rolla and the surrounding area. They have a very detailed website that allows you to immediately narrow your search by size, type (apartment, duplex, or house), living community, and how close it is to campus. On the results page, you can immediately view a photo of the property, the number of bedrooms/bathrooms, price, address, and contact information. Clicking on a result allows you to view features, such as whether the property is pet friendly, if it includes a dishwasher or washer/dryer, and whether it has electric or gas utilities. Most of the properties give a link to a Virtual Tour showing panoramic views of the rooms and yard or street. Their website is great for getting to see your options before talking to a realtor.

Brown Properties
Brown Properties offers several recently-built off-campus apartment complexes in and around Rolla. Most of the apartments have been built within the last eight years. On the website, apartments are listed by size and include a few photographs of a typical apartment for that complex. These apartments are all-electric , have off-street parking, and either include a washer and dryer or have hookups with washer/dryer rentals available.

Collegiate Station
Collegiate Station is an off-campus apartment community exclusively for MS&T students, faculty, and staff-an unaffiliated, off-campus student community. Apartments are available as either 2 bed/2 bath or 4 bed/2 bath. Each apartment comes fully furnished with free internet and cable and an in-unit washer and dryer. Collegiate Station stands out in that it leases on a room-by-room basis-if your roommate decides to move out, you are only responsible for your own lease. They also offer roommate-matching services. If you're having trouble finding a roommate, Collegiate Station will match you with one, or you can pick one yourself. The apartment complex community includes a computer lab, clubhouse and lounge, game room, fitness center, sand volleyball courts, and barbecue areas. Apartment rates average around $460/person plus electric (water, sewer, and trash are paid) and can be paid by the month or by semester.

Rollanet, Investment Realty, Brown Properties, and Collegiate Station are just a few of the many resources available to help you find the perfect off-campus housing in Rolla, Missouri. More options can be found just by taking a stroll down any of the tree-lined streets around campus--several local leasers only advertise with a sign in the front yard. These are just a few ideas to get you started on your search!
