Now I'm sure you have read other articles that talk about how Lambert's performance was wrong, or how it's ok, or how offended someone was, but I'd like to take this opportunity to tell the world that I was the MOST OFFENDED of them all. What offended me the most? I heard about the number of complaints that ABC received in response to Mr. Lambert's performance. Now, I do want to make it known that I do support the freedom of speech, and those people did have every right to call in and complain. However, sometimes it's better not to utilize rights.
Imagine yourself being the one to pick up the phone for ABC and hear these complaints, or read the emails. "I am offended." Would undoubtedly be one. "There were children watching." Would be another. And, I'm sure "We don't want that lifestyle forced on us" or something similar would be another one. How would you respond? Any normal person would say, "I'm sorry, but all you had to do was CHANGE THE CHANNEL!" People are conditioned to not want to hear or see certain things, and I get that. However, if you are willingly subjecting yourself to it, there has to be some responsibility on YOU somewhere in the mess. You are offended, so you feel the need to call someone, just to let them know you are offended. Why? Who cares? The people on the other end don't however adamantly they might try to portray empathy.
The great thing about television is that you can change the channel. Oh, I don't watch cartoons, so I will change the channel. I don't like talk shows, change the channel. OH MY! I'm offended at something! Guess what? No one is forcing you to watch it. Utilize your CH+ button. Any media is going to be filled with a diverse range of subjects and topics, some of which you might not like, and that is life. Since when did people get so sensitive?
Why do adults need to whine to other adults when they see something that is "offensive" to them? These people are the same ones that leave parenting and raising their children up to the school systems, and freak out on them and point fingers and place blame on THEM when their child is behaving up to their expectations. This reminds me of childhood when I would fight with my sister and she would go tell my mom. I did something she didn't like, and she would tattle. Come on adults of America, do we need to tattle? It takes a lot more time to call and be angry and complain than it does to change the channel. Let me tell you this: When you call in and complain over stupid things-and I'm not just talking about the Adam Lambert performance now- you sound like an idiot. No one you talk to REALLY cares what you have to say, they just want to get you off the phone. They place you on mute and make fun of you to their co-workers and make jokes about how sad your life must be if you have nothing better to do. Invest your time in being a better person/parent instead of looking for a reason to snap on someone because your life is less than perfect. Why people CHOOSE to get offended so easily is beyond me. All I can say is, I wish I was the person in charge of taking these calls. Only THEN, would you know the meaning of offended.
