With the NFL season just around the corner, an office fantasy football league is a great way to give you and your buddies a reason to get excited about dragging your buts into the office every morning. You might want to run it by your boss first, or better yet get him involved, that way you won't have to worry about getting in trouble for standing around talking about football when you're supposed to be working.
Due to the ever increasing popularity of fantasy football, there hundreds of great websites out there loaded with information to help you get started. There are several different ways to set up your league so you'll want to do some research to see what the best layout is for your group. Whatever your experience level, you should be able to find a wealth of information to get you going.
After you decide on the size and structure of your league it usually doesn't take long to get all the spots filled. I've been involved in leagues like this and we've had to turn people away because there were too few spots available. If this is the case, encourage people to invite someone to co-own their team with them. This is a great idea because it gets more people involved and that only adds to the fun.
As the season draws closer and your league is set, it's time to set a draft date. This is the day when all the team owners get together and pick their players for the upcoming season. This is quite possibly the best part of this kind of league. Most groups that have been doing it for a while have turned their annual draft into quite an event. It's a great excuse to get together for a few hours of eating and drinking and trash talking.
Once you get into the actual season, you'll find that most days you can't wait to get to work to hear the latest news and gossip around the league. Some owners will be trying to make deals and others will be making side wagers. There's usually all sorts of trash talking and everyone is trying to get the slightest advantage over everyone else. If all this isn't enough to spice up your work day then you are quite possibly beyond help.
Most leagues have a reasonable entry fee that enables them to pay the winner at the end of the season. A good idea is to break it down so maybe the top two or three owners get paid at the end. You can take it a step further and set up special awards that pay out as well. There are many ways to raise the stakes and make your fantasy football season even more interesting.
Many people enjoy playing in online fantasy football leagues but that doesn't even come close to matching the fun you'll have competing face to face with your co-workers and friends. The best part is if you win you get to rub their faces in it every day at work for the rest of the year. If you've never played fantasy football before, take this opportunity to experience football season in a whole new way and beat the nine to five blues at the same time.
