To better serve residents, businesses, and other surrounding towns that have expressed interest in joining the district the district's office will be relocated from its current location in the middle of the second floor of Old Saybrook Town Hall, located at 302 Main St., know that conditions are rather cramped with only one medium sized room and a small office.
"We knew that town hall was just a temporary location," said Mary Jane Engle, director of the health district, which currently consists of Old Saybrook, Clinton and Deep River.
Engle said the district office will be moving down the street to 166 Main St., Unit 2, which is located near the former CVS Pharmacy and in the same building as Liv's Oyster Bar.
"The new facility will better meet our needs and show towns that are thinking of joining that we are an independent regional health district separate from Old Saybrook," Engle said.
The site has plenty of parking along Main Street and behind the building.
"It's the idea of having a storefront, an open door so that the public knows that we are here," Engle said, adding that the office will have increased visibility and accessibility since it will be on the first floor.
The new office will more than double the district's present office space, allow the creation of a new conference room, and allow the ability to accommodate additional staff that could be hired if more towns join the district.
Currently, Engle said that Essex and Westbrook are actively looking at joining the district.
