Did you just buy a laptop and forgot to purchase a carrying case? No problem, just grab an old diaper bag. These large bags are usually padded and built to withstand tough situations. You could also use a briefcase, small gym bag, or a large purse. Just make sure you add something soft and thick to the lining Remember to always keep your laptop cushioned. This also cuts down on the threat of theft. Who would have known you had your laptop in a diaper bag?
Do you have lots of floppy disks and not enough storage space to keep them? Use the kids' old shoe boxes. The tiny box size is perfect for storing disks. A small recipe box can be used to store important numbers and addresses. Write the information on regular index cards. The lid helps prevent any accidents that may occur.
Utilize old tackle boxes for all your loose office supplies. The different compartments make it simple to store your odd-sized objects. If there are some supplies you need to have access to regularly, use old soap dishes. You can paint the dishes to match your office décor. If you have a drawer that tends to get messy every time you open it, use a silverware tray. The long compartments make storing pens, pencils, and scissors very easy.
Small calendars can double as mouse pads. Have an old wire dish-drying rack? Use it to store manila folders. Turn business cards over and use them as address labels. Holiday popcorn tins can be spray-painted and used as trash cans.
Earring studs that have lost their pair can be used as pushpins on pierced bulletin boards. The sparkle will add an elegant touch. Do you have to share your office space? Use old curtains or sheets to create dividers in the room. Make sure you use curtain rods to hang these with. This will allow you to easily change the room back.
Hang the children's drawings to create instant art. Having them draw these is a good way to occupy them as you work. Also, old keyboards and phones are good toys for the kids. Let them work with you.
Many things can be used to build your office. Never throw away any container without putting it to good use. You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a well organized office.
