Office Tsunami

A "mood tsunami" thundered through the office and pulled the unwary into its wake.
In one corner of the room an opposing set of "emotional tectonic plates" grated over each other. The resulting quake birthed a dark and wave of emotion from its epicenter and unleashed it on the uninvolved. An unsuspecting co-worker pondering their personal events got swept up first. Engulfed, their faint agitation transformed into crippling anxiety.
The mood tsunami rolled on and forced its way through a closed door inundating another unprepared victim. Treading through reams of mind numbing work left them vulnerable to its powerful wave of negativity. Its strength trebled it widened its influence.
Washing into the open environment of the sales floor it quickly spread losing none of its power. The insidious wave transformed a minor disagreement between usually friendly coworkers into a bout of raised voices and name baiting. Sensing the abrupt change in the emotional climate one person stretched their tentacles of unhappiness and snared the inexperienced.
Drowning in the rising negativity the inexperienced hurriedly cast hooks into perceived wrongs. The dark wave pushed them into unjustified conflict concerning ideas not even realized.
More damage was done before the powerful wave retreated.
A calm few reached atolls of peace from where they watch the swirling turmoil in mental safety. Anchored by humor and compassion they resisted being swept up by the "mood tsunami".
