Officer Who Arrested Mel Gibson Sues Sheriff's Office for Religious Discrimination

Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Sued for Religious Discrimination

James Mee was the officer who arrested Mel Gibson in 2006 for driving under the influence of alcohol, the incident in which Mel Gibson was said to have hurled a lot of obscenities about the Jewish people.

Well it seems that Officer James Mee is now suing the Los Angeles Sheriff's Office, since the report that he wrote after arresting Mel Gibson painted a somewhat unfavorable opinion of him.

Mee is claiming that as a result of the report, he has since been punished in the workplace,

At the time of the arrest, James Mee was friendly with L.A County Sheriff Lee Baca, and he was also a spokesperson for the departmental Star Program.

However, after the report on Mel Gibson, in which the remarks made by the actor were detailed, Mee claims that he was "unjustly denied" a promotion, and was frequently the target of religious discrimination for being Jewish.

The lawsuit alleges that the report was altered by the Sheriff's department, removing four pages of information following the arrest (pages which were subsequently published by TMZ), and an officer also is alleged to have erased a videotape that showed Mel Gibson frantically screaming and pacing up and down while he was in custody.

Mee is claiming that since he is Jewish, he was blamed for details of the report being leaked to the press, even though there were other employees that has equal access to it.

If those are the facts, then he should sue.

One is left wondering if Officer Mee is after a quick million or two... I doubt this goes anywhere.

Good report. I hope the officer received what he deserves including a great big apology. Religious discrimination of any kind is just wrong.
