Oh No! My Five Year Old is Embarrassing Me

Daisy May
A parent shouldn't be embarrassed by their kid, but sometimes it can't be helped. Kids do say and do the darnedest things at the most inopportune moments.

In my case, my oldest at the age of five embarrassed me in a store. The store was almost next door to where we lived and we went there almost every day. This particular day the store was packed with customers and we was waiting our turn in line. My five year old son was standing next to me being a good little boy. Or at least I thought.

I noticed a couple people looking our way and snickering. At first I was worried that I had my pants unzipped or something just as horrible. Then I saw what they thought was so funny. My perfect little boy was picking his nose! I silently took his hand away from his face and pretended that nothing was amiss. A couple seconds later his finger was back to digging for gold. I told him to stop, and he did. But a minute later he was picking his nose again.

When my husband told his mother about the incident, she said that he did the same thing to her. That didn't make the embarrassment any less although it did give me a reason to laugh. Until I started hearing that we was bad parents for allowing him to have picked up such a nervous habit.
