Oh, No the Toilet Seat is Broken!

Broken Toilet Seat and Other Things in Our Lives

Karen Gallegos
I grew up in a big old house, on a half acre of land. I know what you're thinking, the house sounds charming and nice. But, you would be wrong! This house was not very charming, it was a perfect square, with an entirely way, good size living room, three large bedrooms, kitchen, dinning, and bathroom. The house was continuity in need of repair.

There was always something, broken, leaking or missing. Almost nothing ever got fixed.

In all fairness, my parents probably wanted to fix things, but money was tight and with five kids to feed and clothed, there just was not enough money or time to fix things.

My father was a farmer, but we did not live on the farm. My mother was a stay at home mom. Mom was not really very domestic, she was only a fair cook, and was not into cleaning. As for the large lot, no one ever grew a garden; we did have a large front yard with grass, (thank goodness). The back yard was just terrible! We had weeds six feet high, every now and then, my dad would cut them down with a machete.

This was just the way it was, but we, kids still managed to grow into decent people and move always from home.

My sister and I when home from time to time and were surprised to see that mom and dad were slowly fixing up the house. So we were surprised to fine that the toilet seat was completely broken in two, but still worked. I had no idea how much toilet seats were; But my sister and I though that they would fix the seat soon. But the seat was still broken the next time we went down. So we decided that they must cost a lot for them to put up with it. That year my sister and I both got married and soon had homes' of own. And yes, the toilet seat was still broken at our folk's house.

So one day my sister calls me just panicking, Karen, she said," what am I going to do, the toilet seat is broken?"

"Oh no", I said. "

Yes, Norman said to buy a new one"

. "Did you ask your mother-in-law?" (Her mother-in-law had money). I asked.

Yes, and she just said, "Well, that happens now and then, you'll have to get a new one." "Oh, how much can you afford to spend?" I asked.

" I hope we can fine one for under a hundred dollars ." she said.

"Okay, I'll be over in a few," I said.

So off we went to the local hardware store, you can just imagine, how surprised we were when we seen the price of a good toilet seat! You one can buy one from $5.00 to around $25.00 for a real nice one, We were so happy that we bought one for our parents and installed it too!

I will ever know why my parents never replaced the toilet seat, but I guest you can get used to anything.
