Oh, Those Strange Delaware Laws
In Lewes, it is Illegal to Wear Tight Fitting Pants; In South Bethany, You Must Carry a Bag with You If Walking Your Dog, to Pick Up After Him If He Poops
The law about dogs specifically requires anyone walking a dog to carry a bag or other device to retrieve any excrement their dog may leave on any property other than his own property. The fines can be from $25 to $100. Each time there is a violation of the law is considered a separate offense.
Another strange Delaware law is that if you are flying over water you must carry enough an adequate supply of food and drinks.
Women must never drive while wearing a house coat.
Ugly men may not, by law, go into town before darkness.
Small boys must never throw stones, anytime, anyplace. Children are not allowed by the law to have imaginary friends.
Many cities in Delaware have their own strange laws.
In Fenwick Island, the law forbids anyone from pretending to sleep on any part of any public beach from midnight to 8 a.m. It is also illegal in Fenwick Island for anyone to change his clothes, dwell, cook, sleep, or use toilet facilities in his car (or any vehicle) within the corporate limits of the town. It is also illegal to tailgate from any vehicle in the city. The law defines tailgating as sitting, eating, standing, or drinking on any street or highway, using the vehicle as a picnic facility.
In Lewes, besides the law about pants, there is another strange law that says if one got married after being dared to do so, he may legally have his marriage annulled.
The town of Rehoboth Beachis one town in Delaware has several laws that some might consider to be strange. It is illegal to change clothes in one's vehicle. The law specifically bans changing clothes in a vehicle that is parked on a public place or street or any place that is in plain sight. It also forbids disrobing under the boardwalk. Children may only trick-or-treat only between 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is illegal in to whisper in church. The law about whispering in church also bans rude or profane behavior, talking, and disrupting any assembly in a public place.
It is also illegal in Rehoboth Beach to sleep on a bench on a boardwalk. You will be breaking the law in the town if you change into or out of a bathing suit in a public restroom.
