Another strange Iowa law is that a kiss may never last more than five minutes.

Still another strange Iowa is that drugs or narcotics must never be distributed by anyone who has not first obtained an Iowa drug tax stamp.

Any doctor who treats someone with gonorrhea must report the case to the local health board and include information about where the case probably originated.

Any box that is used to pick hops must be exactly 36 inches long. It also must be 18 inches wide and 23 1/4 inches deep.

Many cities in Iowa have their own strange laws.

In Cedar Rapids, it is illegal in the city limits to read the palms of any person.

A hotel in the city limits of Dubuque must have a hitching post and a watering bucket in front of it.

In Fort Madison, before fighting a fire, the fire department must practice fire fighting for 15 minutes.

If you want to be a law abiding citizen in the city of Marshalltown, make certain if you own a horse that it never eats a fire hydrant.

It is not illegal to thrown bricks on a highway in Mount Vernon, if one obtains the necessary written permission from City Council first. Besides bricks, one is not allowed to throw missiles, to shoot arrows, use slingshots, air rifles, or any dangerous toy or instrument on any street sidewalk, highway, public way, alley, in any public building, or public ground, without permission.

It is also illegal in Mount Vernon to pick flowers in any public park. The law also forbids cutting trees.

The lights in any softball diamond in Mount Vernon must be turned off by 10:30 p.m. Under the law, the lights may also only be used for organized games and tournaments, unless one first gets written permission from the Director of the Parks and Recreation Department.

In Bettendorf, a liquor store may never place an advertisement for beer outside its store. The law does not forbid other advertising by liquor stores, however.

In Ottumwa, no man may wink at a woman, unless he knows her.
