Oh, Those (Strange) New York Laws
You Can Be Fined $25 for Flirting and Cannot Walk Around on Sunday Carrying an Ice Cream Cone in Your Pocket
Talk about the obvious. One strange law in New York is that the penalty in the state for jumping off a building is death.
Make sure you take your slippers off by a reasonable hour. It is illegal to wear them after 10:00 p.m.
If you want to hang clothes outside, make sure you buy the required license.
Make sure you never throw a ball at someone's head, just for fun, if you want to be a law abiding citizen.
Those in the state who want to dissolve their marriage for irreconcilable differences may do so, but only if both parties are in agreement to the dissolution.
Forget about getting a messy pocket, you will also be breaking the law in New York if you walk around on Sunday with an ice cream cone in your pocket.
Another strange New York law is that while riding an elevator you must talk with no one and also must fold your hands while looking at the door.
Many cities in New York have their own strange laws.
In Carmel, it is illegal for a man to go outside, if he has a jacket and pants that do not match. In the city, you also are not allowed to eat ice cream, if you are standing on the street. As long as they are in the city limits, women are not allowed to wear high heels.
If you are ever in Greene, may certain you never eat peanuts and walk backwards on a sidewalk during a concert, if you want to be a law abiding citizen.
In Ocean City, it is illegal to sell raw hamburger. You are not allowed to play pinball machines on Sunday. It is illegal in the city to slurp one's soup. It is illegal to eat while swimming in the ocean. Because of a law from the early 1900's, men are not allowed to go topless while on the boardwalk.
In New York City people may not greet each other by putting their thumbs to their noses and wiggling their fingers. It is also illegal for a woman on the street to wear "body hugging clothing."
In Sag Harbor, it is illegal to disrobe in a wagon. If one does choose to disrobe in the city, that person must be clothed in a suitable bathing suit.
In Staten Island you may only water your lawn if you are holding the hose in your hand.
