Oh What to Write About Now?

Stuck for an Idea on What to Write Your Articles About?

Judilynn
I have a serious case of writers block for here at Associated Content. I have been unable to come up with any good ideas. So what is my solution to this problem? Well there are a number of different things that I or you can do. You need to find inspiration, ideas, and things to write about that the public want to read. I am well aware that my vein of knowledge does not often coincide with what the public wants to read about, but then again I do enjoy writing it, so that is half the battle right? Well sometimes. I believe that in their hearts, all writers want to be read. Not just to get their ideas down on paper, or screen here on the internet writing forum, but to be read. Writers want to have their material read, enjoy, critiqued, even the bad critiques help, but the biggest thing is they want to be read. I know I am being a bit redundant, but I think it is a valuable point.

There is a fine line though with writing what you enjoy and finding something that the public will read. If what you enjoy writing about is nuclear physics, but have a limited audience, don't just jump to a how to article on paper airplanes, unless of course you know paper airplanes. So as always here is my idea on how to find ideas that will interest you and get you read.

Number One - Write about something that has piqued your interest. Have you heard something interesting on the news lately and want to learn more about it? Write an article on it. Do your research, learn a few things, then you can pull it all together and write a great article.

Number two - Popular keywords will bring you in readers. Search engines keep records of popular searched for keywords. Go and see what is popular on Google today and the past at http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html. See something there that sparks your creative nature? Anything you would be interested in learning more about? Stretch your creative spirit and write an article.

Number three - How to articles are so popular. Are you the expert in your office on how to un-jam the copier? Know how to do basic maintenance on your dryer? People are always searching for how to fix things. Did you have issues with some new piece of technology and got it resolved successfully? Share your findings with the world, you know; more than likely someone else has had this very same issue. Have a great recipe for what to do with turkey leftovers? Recipes are a great idea for how to also.

Number four - TV and celebrities are always a popular and well read subject. Do you watch a popular TV show and have some insight or great opinions? Have an opinion on a celebrity's latest activities? Remember here that sometimes controversy will get you read a bit more. Have you seen a great movie lately? Was there a cliff hanger on your favorite show? Got an opinion on who is going to win the latest reality TV show? These are all great ideas to get you writing and getting read.

Number five - And this one is for my Dad, Politics. Everyone has an opinion here. And people like to read other peoples opinions. Politics, even your own small town politics are widely read. Everyone wants to know what is going on, and a lot of these people use the internet and the internet news services to keep up to date on the candidates running for office, or the officials in office and what they are doing. We also can put in here policies that are up to be voted on. Have an opinion on the spending bills in congress at the moment? Voice your opinion, be heard.

Number six - Is there a holiday coming up? These make great topics. Gift ideas, craft ideas, unique ways to celebrate these holidays are all wonderful ideas to get your creative writing going. People are always searching for ideas and history of holidays. The more unique your article and ideas the more you will get read. Always keep in mind though that you don't want to narrow your topic too drastically. You do want your article to appeal to a wider range of individuals.

All in all, the ideas for what to write about are all around us. Just keep your eyes open to the possibilities where ever you spend your days, what you read about, what you hear your neighbors and co-workers talk about. You never know when and where an idea for an article may find you. Keep in mind though it has to have your attention before you grab anyone else with it!

Happy Writing!

Great tips! My biggest problem is keywords -- I can come up with tons of article topics, but I may not have the best keywords. It's something to work on.

Great tips for those who are stuck, and where to look for inspiration. Sometimes you don't have to go any further than your own backyard.

I relate so well to your initial sentiment about passion for topics that don't top the popularity charts.
