Steubenville High School

Steubenville is the county seat of Jefferson County, Ohio. In the 2,000 census, its population was listed as 10,015. Because it has over 25 murals in the downtown area, it is sometimes called the City of Murals.

Steubenville High School Football

Steubenville High School is the only public high school in Steubenville. The team is known as the Steubenville Big Red. In November they had accumulated wins in 40 straight regular season games. The team has won nine state championships since its inception. The Big Red won every game they played in 2005 (15 including the regular season and the playoffs) and won the Ohio Division III State Championship game. They repeated this performance in 2006 with another lossless season. Big Red also won the Division II State Championship in 8984 and were runners up for the Division II State Championship titles in both 1987 and 1988. The team has also taken the State Championship title in the 1925, 1926, 1930, 1931, and 1925 seasons, giving them a long football history and a legacy to maintain.

Steubenville Big Red 2007 Season

Many people wonder what the 2007 football season will bring for the Steubenville Big Red. With two back-to-back State Championship titles, they are bound to feel a little pressure to maintain the run. Not only will the team be facing this pressure, but they will also be making adjustments to the loss of many key players who were seniors during the 2006 season. Zack Collaros, Steve Davis, Chris Rose, Michael Fahey, Nick Vogagis, Franklin Littlejohn, and Sam Pavlik are among the seniors that graduated from the school last year and will not be returning to the team. Instead of relying on their past laurels and the talents of those who will no longer be playing with the team, the remaining members will have to step up and defend their title with the other heavy hitting Ohio high school teams. While they have lost many players, this shouldn't necessarily be looked at as a time when the team might slip, but rather as an opportunity for the new team to show how it has grown from last season. After all, while the seniors who won last years championship had the experience of going with their team to the game in 2005, the new crop of seniors have not only the 2005 season but also the 2006 season. That's a lot of experience to draw from.
