Wide receiver Marquis Powell attends Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ohio, and will begin his senior year in the fall. He weights 197 pounds and stands six-feet five-inches tall. He has an offer from Eastern Kentucky. Schools he has cited interest in include Indiana, Michigan, Virginia Tech, and Eastern Michigan. Another school he is looking at is Miami (Ohio). Powell has made unofficial trips to Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, and Eastern Michigan.

Unofficial trips to Cincinnati, Louisville
Marquis Powell has already made two unofficial trips to Louisville, one during the school's Junior Day in April. He went with his teammate and lineman Phillip Manley. "I loved Louisville. I fell in love when I got down there," he told CardinalSports.com.

He said was impressed with how the team was treated. "There was a lot of fans; I liked that. There's a lot of school spirit there," he said. At the Louisville spring game, he was enthusiastic as he watched the players and was especially excited "when (Mario) Urrutia started heating up in the second half." Louisville's assistant coach Mike Cassity has been recruiting the Hamilton wide receiver.

Wide receiver Powell also made another unofficial trip to Cincinnati for a spring game, which he also enjoyed. "(Dominick) Goodman, the receiver, was looking good the whole game, actually," he said. "I like it when receivers do good out there; it makes me want get out there and play."

Marquis Powell's decision to pick a school has little to do with a childhood favorite. "I didn't really grow up with a favorite team, but I fell in love with Louisville last year watching them. I like them a lot," he said, but added, "and UC."

Virginia Tech camp
In June, he went to Virginia Tech's football camp and was confident in his performance overall. "The camp at Virginia Tech went very well. Everything was organized and the coaches were talking to me," he said. "There weren't that many people at wide receiver, and I got to go up against a lot of good defensive backs." His performance also caught assistant coach Kevin Sherman's eye. Powell told HokieHaven.com, "Coach Sherman talked to me a bit. He said that he'd be watching me more this year. He then talked about how he knew about our school since he used to live in Akron."

Other visits
The summer also brings trips to Michigan State, Purdue, and Miami (Ohio).
