Ohio State Flash Mob Goes Viral: Link to Video
"Don't Stop Believin" Flash Mob at Ohio State Spreads like Wildfire
Filmed in the new Ohio Union, the official YouTube video of OSU's Flash Mob, found here, has more than 520,000 hits since 4:00 AM Tuesday May 4.
Seventy students broke into a choreographed dance shortly after 12:30 PM Monday as the Ohio Union was filled with Ohio State students. The music of choice was "Don't Stop Believin", Glee's take on the Journey classic. As the first notes fill the Union, a young man jumps over the head of another and the show begins. Brutus Buckeye and Ohio State President Gordon Gee join in toward the end.
According to the broadcast of Fox28 News at 10 on Wednesday night, the video of Ohio State's Flash Mob has spiraled out of control. With just over 5,000 views on Tuesday evening, the number of hits during Wednesday's broadcast was more than 360,000. Seven cameras throughout the Ohio Union caught the action and the dancing students did get a chance to rehearse very early Monday morning while the Union was closed.
I first saw the video of Ohio State's Flash Mob on Tuesday night when a friend shared it on Facebook.
The concept of a Flash Mob is simple but easily overtakes its surroundings. A group of people intermingle in a public area and then break into an artistic act of some sort. The first Flash Mob I saw was "Frozen Grand Central" in which more than 200 members of Improv Everywhere suddenly stopped and stood still at a designated time.
Ohio State's Flash Mob video still has a way to go before catching "Frozen Grand Central's" more than 21 million views in the past two years, averaging about 29,000 views per day.
Of course, the Flash Mob at OSU has averaged more than 260,000 views a day since it premiered.

Post a Commentwe saw them practicing on sunday night. Kinda knew something was going to go down. The union was crowded all day with kids trying to get free tickets to see Conan and another line of kids that led to nowhere. I missed the mob, but i did get to see a fully electric Honda 900, and also a hybrid Lotus. So, that's cool.
That was a great way to carry us through our day! Thanks.
Go Bucks! YAY!
