Ohio's Cedar Falls State Park is the Photogenic Jewel of the Hocking Hills

Beautiful Waterfall is a Must See

Paul Williams
Cedar Falls State Park's namesake is the photogenic jewel of Ohio's Hocking Hills region. A beautiful waterfall enhanced on our latest visit by a heavy rainfall the night before.

Cedar Falls is between Ash Cave and Old Man's Cave on OH374. It is also accessible from the Grandma Gatewood trail which links all 3 state parks.

Another excellent 5 mile round-trip hike is to follow the Queer Creek gorge from Old Man's Cave to Cedar Falls, returning on the trail that goes past Rose Lake, a fishing hole for Hocking Hills visitors.

Cedar Falls features the largest water volume of all the Hocking Hills waterfalls. Queer Creek falls some 50 feet over the familiar Black Hand sandstone of southeastern Ohio. A unique split half-way down the cliffside gives Cedar Falls its photogenic charm.

The parking area at Cedar Falls was recently enlarged. A necessity since this is a very popular weekend destination. Just watch out for foolish drivers heading the wrong way out of the parking lot. Thank goodness for the Subaru's ground clearance!

The waterfall is an easy 1/4 mile hike from the parking area if one doesn't want to take the scenic route from Old Man's Cave or Ash Cave. Since one descends a decent number of stairs to get to Cedar Falls, the return trip is slightly more strenuous.

The nearby Inn at Cedar Falls is known for its excellent restaurant and cabins.

Cedar Falls is another Ohio natural must-see. It's a no-brainer to visit Ash Cave and Old Man's Cave on the same visit. Consider making the trip on a weekday if you don't like crowds of people.
