The summer kicks off with the opening of the Greek festival which usually takes place in late July. As you walk in between the crowded areas, get a tasting of some Greek food like the world famous gyros, Slovakia, and of course the wonderful Greek pastries like baklava, don't fill up too quickly because you'll be heading off the beer tent to celebrate with friends and families. The Greek festival is not only home to the most amazing food, but also to it's culture. The Greek festival brings about lots of Greek dancing, Greek jewelry, and artifacts. Join in the circle of Greek dancers and learn a bit of dancing or stop by the Greek artifacts to learn a little more about the culture. The Greeks are willing to show you anything about their culture. This is one festival where you'll leave full of Greek food and taught a bit of Greek cultural.
Just as the summer's heat begins to get unbearable, the Italians make their way in downtown Warren to show their heritage. This is another great festival where you are guaranteed great food, fun, and people. People come from all over to sample some of the homemade Italian sausage, meatballs, or lasagna. The streets are lined with vendors offering a variety of Italian food. After you've filled yourself with plenty of Italian dishes, head over to the main tent where rounds of bingo and tear a ticket games are being played. Don't forget to sample the homemade wines that made from Ohio's finest people. This festival lets you mingle with lots of friends, enjoy a variety of foods before the summer comes to a close.
Before the summer as time to officially end, the African American Heritage Festival takes place last to close off summer. This festival lines the streets with people trying to get a dish of homemade greens, BBQ ribs, and homemade fried chicken. Along with an assortment of food, homemade pies are also offered in tents around the streets. This festival draws in crowds from miles away by the smell of their smoked ribs. Besides the great food a sampling of African folk dance is also flooding the streets. Live music and costumed dancers make their way through the crowds and down the streets.
All of these festivals brings in thousands of people each year anxiously awaiting the food, fun, and festivities. All of the proceeds from these events goes towards local churches and organizations supporting their cultures. Every year people look forward to these festivals and never miss a day that it goes on. Next time you're in Ohio during the summer months, see if one of these festivals is taking place for you to experience for yourself.
