Ohio's Top Coffee Shops

A Guide to the Best Beans in Town

T.C. Hana
The love of coffee has quite a history, from the romantic mystique it apparently created years ago in France and Italy to the many Starbucks locations that are open here in America today. There are some coffee house chains like Starbucks that have made quite an impression, but I really like the more personal ambiance that the independently owned shops create. There are a few coffee houses that my husband and I really love, so I thought I would tell you about them.

Living in Dayton, Ohio has given us the opportunity to enjoy one of the best coffees we have ever had; it's called Boston Stoker. Boston Stoker is only in Dayton, and the main coffee shop down by the University of Dayton is a great hangout for the college students and us. We like to go down there every once in awhile, and just take a leisurely stroll in the city, then stop by Boston Stoker to sip on either a hot mug of Kenya Red-eye, or a flavorful latte. They specialize in flavored coffees and some signature roasts that are fair trade. They grace the storefronts of two Dorothy Lane Market locations, and they can also be found at the Dayton International Airport. Their menu consists of bakery goods and the traditional biscotti biscuits to munch on with your favorite selection at Boston Stoker.

The second coffee house on our list is "Coffee Please". This coffee shop is located in Madeira, a small suburb in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a great hangout for the locals, or those just passing through on their way to work. One of my favorite features of Coffee Please, is that they have a roaster near their deli counter. You can watch the beans as they are being roasted and the aromas are simply intoxicating. They have a great menu of deli sandwiches, bakery goods, and the traditional biscotti to go with your cup of joe. This coffee shop has wood tables which I love, and their coffee is out in the shop up against the wall in the airtight containers. I like this, because you can walk through and take the lids off and smell the coffee before you buy it. Aroma to me in this shop is everything. This coffee shop is nestled in the business district by a few boutiques, a Kroger, and a Seafood Shop. They too provide flavored coffees and fair trade coffees. My personal favorite from this shop is the Highlander Grogg.

Last but not least, I love the Antique Peddlers in Loveland, Ohio. This shop is for anyone who loves coffee and loves antiques. This is one of the neatest places I have ever been. This shop is at the corner of Loveland-Madeira Road, and Main street in the heart of Loveland. You can enter through the Corner Coffee Shop area, where you can enjoy gourmet soups and sandwiches, along with your favorite coffee or hot tea. They have a wonderful selection of bakery goods as well. After your done, you can walk right over into the antique shop and stroll around checking out everything from the Victorian tea cups, to the silver spoons. You can also take your laptop in for free wi-fi. Stop by and enjoy things old and new along with your favorite brew!
