Oil in the Gulf

Life in the Gulf of Mexico Forever Changed

Deb Martin-Webster
Gush, gush, gush, gush
will it never end
black thick sticky oil
floating 'round the bend

Fish birds sand and bogs
families unable to cope
life in the gulf forever changed
and still we must have hope

We hope that someone talented
and environmentally bright
can keep this oil spill contained
to make this horrible wrong a right

Oceans, bayous, river beds
may be forever loss
was offshore drilling worth the risk
at such a tragic cost

I pray and hope the end is near
to stop this tragic spew
it may take years or decades
for gulf life to renew

KEEP IT GREEN, KEEP IT CLEAN!

Thank you Heather for your comment. . . and STILL it gushs! BP should be charged with crimes against humanity!! But this isn't entirely their fault. . . corporations need to put much more effort into alternative sustainable fuel. With all the funding and research they've done in an attempt to correct this catastrophy they could have funded years of research for reliable, clean fuel sources. "But still they drill" . . .this will be the title for my next Green Poetry poem!

Deb, this is a wonderful poem. BP has injured the Earth and needs to be held accountable.

Great poem! Such a shame it has taken so long to fix this problem!

This is such a disgrace. I can't even imagine the destruction to the ecosystems. Excellent poem!

I totally agree with you both! This is a very emotional issue for me. I was going to write an editorial but chose a poetic stand instead. Thank you for your feedback!!

Ooops, emotions got in the way of my writing. Let me make a few corrections here. "BP risked our entire livelihood on drilling. BP was allowed to drill and no one monitored their actions as required. Now it seems those billionaires and kazillionaires who are reaping the benefits have no idea what to do to stop the damage and continuous flow of oil!

BP is blemish on the lifeline of the Earth. No consequence (to them) wold be too dire.
